The Value of Little Things: A Team Building Reflection

The team-building season always brings a mix of laughter and tears, doesn’t it? Thankfully, this season ended with everyone on our team laughing like kids throughout the journey together.

As we age, it becomes harder to laugh freely because of countless burdens. Our minds are constantly occupied with calculations, leaving little room for rest. So, when planning the Gala Dinner, I wondered how to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves. How could we prevent anyone feeling left out or like they didn’t belong?

We are all still small individuals in this vast world. Regardless of who you are, like all humans, your greatest need is to be loved and valued. In a group, some are as vibrant and lively as the spring breeze, while others are calm and quiet like water. How do we bring them together? How do we create a space where they can laugh, cry, and hold hands? It’s not easy, but together, we can rewrite the narrative.

Team building isn’t just about forcing junior team members to perform, participate in water games, compete, and feel pressure. Team building shouldn’t make older colleagues feel exhausted and resort to hiding in their hotel rooms. Team building should be:

A chance to escape the concrete jungle, reconnect with nature, and breathe fresh air that fills our lungs.

An opportunity to get to know our colleagues beyond work, understand each other better, and share more.

A time to build when needed and reflect when required.

A chance for each of us to assess our physical and mental well-being and ask ourselves if we’ve been kind to our healthy bodies.

And much more!

There are countless new definitions of a corporate team-building trip, and I’m fortunate to be part of this team, contributing and benefiting from it.

Thank you to our lovely leaders who unconditionally support and embrace our ideas. Thank you for generously sponsoring us so we can afford to live because, as Đen said, “Without money, how can we make music?”

Thank you to the women in our group. Despite the worry evident on your faces, you bravely carried your backpacks, eagerly ventured into the deep forest, crossed streams, explored caves, and participated in every activity. These first-time experiences will empower you to believe in your ability to accomplish anything, regardless of your generation. Because, as they say, “Every age for a woman is beautiful, as long as she lives as her diamond self.”

Thank you to the men in our group. You are all diligent, kind, and incredibly gentlemanly. I am proud of our boys.

Like birds, we spread our wings and fly freely but need each other to support our flight back home.
Like stars, we have our twinkling light, but no star can shine alone in the night sky. We need each other to shine brightly together. Like rivers, we don’t compete to flow first; we only strive to flow endlessly.

My Duong.

Life is a challenging journey across the sea. Once we step onto the same boat, we are one. We should become a united force with our team. The waves are already strong enough to toss us around, so when we embark on the same journey, we must support each other to navigate each wave.

We don’t live in this world for hundreds of years to waste even a moment on pointless competition and pushing each other down. We are here to live fully, share, love, and support our loved ones, our partners, and our teammates, whom we are fortunate to have in our lives.

For many a year, I have travelled many a mile to
lands far away I’ve gone to see the mountains, the oceans I’ve been to view.
But I failed to see that lay.
Not two steps from my home.
On a sheaf of paddy grain – a glistening drop of dew

Let’s always cherish and love every face we are fortunate to meet and connect with. May we all have abundant peace and hearts overflowing with love.

Be Gentle,

From MyMy with love.
